Actelion is a pharmaceuticals and biotechnology company established in December 1997, headquartered in Allschwil near Basel, Switzerland.Actelion focuses on the manufacture of drugs that treat rare diseases and orphan diseases. Some of the drugs it has produced have been used to treat patients with symptoms related to central nervous system disorders, irregular heart conditions, immune system disorders and cancer. One of the focuses of Actelion is treating individuals with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), a heart condition that leaves patients with a short life expectancy (7-9 years) even with treatment.

Medical Xpress shared an article published by The Associated Press: "Drug company Actelion to pay $360M in kickback probe. The U.S. attorney's office in Boston announced the settlement Thursday with Actelion Pharmaceuticals US Inc., which was acquired last year by health care giant Johnson & Johnson. Federal prosecutors say South San Francisco-based Actelion illegally used a purportedly independent charity to cover the co-payments of thousands of Medicare patients taking its pulmonary arterial high blood pressure drugs. Prosecutors say that helped the company convince patients to buy its drugs when the prices it set would have otherwise prevented them from doing so."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"make very poor management decisions, and deceive the sales teams in a very manipulative manner. Very unprofessional for such an experienced and high performing sales staff."

Text & Artwork Coordinator (Former Employee) says

"I was surprised at how management of the department I was in allowed two employees to set and maintain a negative tone constantly. There was no reprimanding them or even letting them go which would have been normal in another organisation. The pharmaceutical industry is not for me anyway but I would have stuck out my year's contract but for the nastiness I had to face daily in the office. The other departments had very decent folk some with whom I am still friends. I was employed through a recruitment service which meant that when I needed assistance from Actelion HR, they didn't want to know although when they realised I was athletic and sporty, they asked me to be part of their competitive Bike-to-Work scheme!"
